The purpose of this conference, like its fourteen predecessors, is to examine innovative management accounting practices and innovative ideas about how to conduct research on them. The conference will consist of plenary sessions (keynote speakers) and concurrent sessions (research paper presentations). The conference is co-organized by the Department of Accounting (Bocconi University) and the Accounting Knowledge Group (SDA Bocconi).

Submission of papers that deal with innovative management accounting practices, theories, or research methods are particularly relevant to this conference. Completed papers intended for presentation at the conference should be submitted via email (newdirections@unibocconi.it). The submission deadline is September 22, 2026. The papers will be considered for presentation at concurrent sessions by the chairpersons, and a response will be given by early October. There will be an opportunity to send a revised version of accepted papers one time up until November 29.

Refund registration fee and cancellation policy

1. In case of cancellation before 12:00 PM (CET) on 16 November 2026, you will be refunded 50% of the conference fee. For cancellations on or after 12:00 PM (CET) 16 November 2026, there will be no refund.
2. All cancellations must be made in writing via e-mail to the New Directions Secretariat (newdirections@unibocconi.it). Delegates who do not cancel and do not attend, will not be reimbursed their full registration fee. Please note that, for the purposes of this Cancellation Policy, a cancellation shall be deemed received on the date and time shown by the New Directions Secretariat's email system (Italy local time – CET/CEST, as applicable).
3. The organisation reserves the right to alter the venue if necessary.

4. In the event that the New Directions Conference cannot be held or is postponed due to events beyond the control of the Conference Organisers (Force Majeure*) or due to events which are not attributable to wrongful intent or gross negligence of the Conference Organisers, the Conference Organisers cannot be held liable by attendees for any damages, costs, or losses incurred, such as transportation costs, accommodation costs, financial losses, or any other indirect losses or consequential damages. 

   *An event of force majeure shall include, without limitation, Acts of God, war, riot, fire, explosion, accident, flood, earthquake, sabotage, epidemics/pandemics, strike of employees other than those of Bocconi University, inability to obtain power, fuel, material or labour or acts of any government.
